Your blog has all the fashion credentials of Style Bubble, your images are your own and tweaked to perfection and you have just posted a link onto your social media networks…yet after a day your internet traffic is already on a downward spiral and you don’t know what to do.
A lot of bloggers don’t realise that promoting your blog is a job in itself and if you are not familiar with the technical language such as the term SEO it can all sound a little scary. SEO is an internet acronym that translates into “search engine optimisation”. It means by making a website optimised to search engine searches you are increasing its visibility as more people are linked to your the website.
The Complicated Part
We live in a consumer driven society where information can be accessed in a matter of nano-seconds, what are you going to do to make your blog content stand out? Make your blog easy to read by inserting bullet points, images and subheadings in order to make the content easier to read. Keep in mind that subheadings are proven to be a lot more effective and acts as a visual aid for the blog itself. It is easy to feel like you have to be creative with your blog title choice, however I suggest that you save your creativity for the actual body of the text and keep your title straightforward.
The Google Keyword Tool gives you the opportunity to see if any combination of words is searched more than a hundred times over the course of a month. This is especially handy when creating your blog titles because if you put the keywords at the beginning of the title and make sure the keywords are used in the URL this means that your blog will come up in Google searches where those keywords occur. Always check that your competitors don’t use the same keywords as this will make your SEO efforts unsuccessful, remember that you are trying to make your blog stand out not blend in.
If you are a WordPress user like the vast majority of bloggers make sure that you categorise your post and use the correct tags for your website along with a high quality featured image. It is worth writing a decent summary of your post for the search engine results page (SERP) using a plug in such as Yoast. What about your images? Give them the SEO treatment by uploading them at the smallest size but the highest quality possible. To further raise the profile of your blog you could try your hand at a press release, give away awesome goodies if you are lucky enough to have PR contacts and participate in forums, blogs and discussion groups to raise the profile of your site further. And remember, don’t forget good old fashioned spelling, grammar and punctuation to give your blog the start that it deserves.
